Twelve year old Billy had lived in a remote area before recently moving to town and had never seen a circus. You can imagine his excitement when bright posters went up in shop windows announcing a travelling circus would be in town next week. He begged his father for permission to attend and the father promised that if the chores were finished before time, he could go.
With the chores complete, the boy dressed in his Sunday best, put the circus money safely in his pocket, and headed for town. He was so excited! As he neared town, he found people lining the streets and he worked his way through the crowd to the front.
The circus parade was the grandest thing he had ever seen in his life. He was thrilled at the brightly coloured cages and the people in their bright, glittery costumes. Bands beat out marching tunes, people performed amazing acrobatics, some danced on horses. Caged animals snarled as they passed and men juggled balls and sticks. A circus must be the BEST thing ever!
Billy was so excited! The circus was the most amazing thing he had ever seen. Finally, a little behind the last bright carriage, came a clown with floppy shoes, baggy pants, a big bow tie, an enormous bright red wig, an amazing hat, a huge red nose and a brightly painted face. He was playing to the people along the route, and as he came by, Billy handed him the circus money, turned away and went home. What a day!
BILLY THOUGHT HE HAD SEEN THE CIRCUS
WHEN HE HAD ONLY SEEN THE PARADE.
Do we experience ALL that God has provided for us?
2 Peter 1:3-4
His divine power has given to us ALL things
that pertain to life and godliness,
through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,
by which HAVE BEEN GIVEN to us
EXCEEDING GREAT AND PRECIOUS PROMISES,
that through these you may be PARTAKERS OF THE DIVINE NATURE, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
Are we missing out? – missing the real thing?
Luke 21:15
I will give you a mouth and wisdom
which all your adversaries will not be able to contradict or resist.
Are we missing out? – missing the real thing?
Matthew 28:20
I am with you always.
John 15:4,7
Abide in Me, and I in you.
If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you,
you shall ask what you will and it shall be done.
Are we missing out? – missing the real thing?
We can be
“strengthened with might by His Spirit, in the inner man”
Ephesians 3:16
We can be
“filled with all the fullness of God”
Ephesians 3:19
We can be
“filled with the knowledge of His will
in all wisdom and spiritual understanding”
Colossians 1:9
We can be
“more than conquerors through Christ”
Romans 8:37
We can be
“strong in the Lord and the power of His might”
Ephesians 6:10
Are we missing out? – missing the real thing?
The Christian life is an incredible adventure.
The Christian life is a life of victory
when we allow the triune God His rightful place in our lives.
– – – – – – – – – – OR – – – – – – – – – –
We can miss out on the abundant life God has provided.
BILLY WAS SATISFIED WITH THE PARADE
BUT HE MISSED OUT ON THE REAL THING.
Are we missing out? – missing the real thing?
A life yielded to the Lordship of Christ will give the abundant life that Jesus offers.
Colossians 3:18
In ALL things, HE (Jesus) should have the pre-eminence.
Amen! Let’s not stop short of His blessings!!

I am afraid I stop short of His blessings far too often. He wants to bless us much more than we want to be blessed, but all too often self gets in the way and we lose out. How foolish we are! I yearn to be 100% controlled by Him.

Thanks for sharing, Dearest Angela
Sad truth! :(
This can happen when I refuse to see God as the ultimate … then I will be satisfied with less than His best for me. … I don’t always recall that there is nothing too hard for Him to do… He can do much more than I can come up with in my wildest dreams.
I too am thankful for His mercy and His grace, as undeserving as I am.
Blessings

P.S. This post reminds me of Israel Houghton’s song “Take The Limits Off’
1- I’m not a man, I cannot lie. I know the plans for your life, I’m asking you to dream again, believe again and take the limits off of Me.
2 – :No I’m not a man, I cannot lie. I know the plans I have for you they’re my design, so I’m asking you just to hope again and trust again and take the limits off of Me.
Chorus: All I’m asking is take the limits off, take the limits off,
Release Me to accomplish what I promised you,
Take the limits off Me, take the limits off release Me release Me
…

Thank you for adding that Ann.
I believe some of the saddest words in the Bible are found in Psalm 78:41 “They LIMITED the Holy One of Israel”
Our minds scream out that we should not be able to limit God; that the created cannot limit the Creator. It is truly an incongruous thought – and yet we all too often do it. I do not want to limit God’s work in me or through me. I want to be completely in line with His will, but I know I often stray, following my own way. Thankfully, He lovingly draws me back to Himself.
What an incredibly amazing, patient God!

Thank you Stephanie – but as you say, it is all from God. We could do nothing of spiritual benefit without Him, but when we post as led by Him and for His glory, we know it will achieve His purpose.
We serve an incredibly amazing God.

Hi Angela,
If we would only learn the lesson that when we place Christ first, we will benefit in every area of our life. Thank you for the blessed reminder. May the Lord continue to care for you and Myles

What a wonderful way to remind us of all that we’ve been given. I don’t want to miss out! Thank you and God bless you!

I don’t want to miss out either Debbie, but sadly I have to admit that I do all too often. I foolishly go my own way, stumbling and tripping, until He so lovingly (but sometimes with a heavier hand) draws me back. Our amazing God desires to bless us more than we want to be blessed. May we always be willing to submit to Him, following His way and receiving from His abundance.

Great post with a powerful message not to be short-changed, but to reach out for everything God has in store for those who love Him.

“Short changed” is such a good way of putting it. I doubt if we ever take all that God has to offer. His only desire is to pour blessings on His own blood-bought, adopted children, but all too often we choose to go our own way and ‘miss out’ on the abundance He wants to give.

I just had an email along similar lines tonight. We seem happier with religion than faith. We can talk about God, but I for one fail to talk to him, or to seek Jesus in the way that I should. We too readily settle for worse than 2nd best! Do you really have pants in Australia, rather than trousers?

I think most of us, if not all of us, settle for second best most of the time. God only desires the very, very best for us, but all too often we are not willing to surrender all in order to receive His best – so foolish of us. What idiocy to hold to our own ways when we know His is soooooooooo much better – and come to us with such enormous blessings.
Yes, Stephen, ‘pants’ is the most used word – for his or hers. I think the only time ‘trousers’ would be used would be as part of a suit, but most would still refer to them
as pants.
