“AND THEN SOME” – the secret of success?

A top business executive was asked the secret of success.  He replied that the difference between average and successful people could be summed up in three words “and then some”.

The successful people did what was expected “and then some”
They met their obligations and responsibilities “and then some”
They were thoughtful and considerate of others “and then some”
They were good friends and helpful co-labourers “and then some”
They could be counted on in an emergency “and then some”
Can that “and then some” or that “little bit extra” make a difference?

Let’s consider water.
It is the “and then some”
that changes WATER into STEAM.
At 211°F degrees or 99°C
water will make a cup of coffee.
Add just one more degree,
and the same water, changed to steam,
will power a locomotive or a steamship or a factory!

How do we approach our Christian responsibilities?
Can it be said that we do them well – “and then some”?

Would that “and then some” – that little bit extra –
make the difference in our witness to those we meet?

Would that “and then some” – that little bit extra –
make a difference to the effectiveness of our local Church
to reach the community with the Gospel?

Would that “and then some” – that little bit extra –
make a difference to the life of a missionary toiling on a foreign field?

Would that “and then some” – that little bit extra –
make the difference needed to turn the world upside down?

There are many people in my life who need to see Jesus in me:
people who need my “and then some”

Let your light so shine before men
that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

Philippians 2:13,15
It is God who works in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure . . . That you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation,
