CHANGED VALUE

If you had a choice, would you choose a quiet, peaceful life with no troubles?

I guess at FIRST thought, most of us would say a hearty “Yes, please!”

But would that be the best for us?

Let’s look at a bar of steel – a bar of steel worth $50.

Now,  if that $50 bar of steel
is cut into ordinary horseshoes, it is worth
$150.

But if that $50 bar of steel
is cut into sewing needles, it is worth
$3,500.

But is that $50 bar of steel
is cut into delicate watch springs,
it becomes worth
$2,500,000

Another example of changed values is found in pottery.

[see Jeremiah 18:1-6]

A lump of clay has little value.
Depending on its treatment, it can become a wonky shape or a useful item;
it can last only a short time before crumbling or a long time.

After it has been hammered and thrown and beaten and moulded and fired
it can become an item of extremely great value and  beauty.
For the Christians.
We know that our loving Father never sends evil our way,
but we also know that evil happens.

We know that God’s purpose
is for US to be CONFORMED to the IMAGE fo CHRIST.

[Ephesians 4:13.  Romans 8:29]

 Just as the steel bar
goes through much difficulty to become valuable watch springs;
and just as a lump of clay
is hammered and thrown and beaten and moulded and fired
to become an item of value and beauty;
and just as gold is refined in the fire to become pure gold;
just so,
we are being CONFORMED as we undergo troubles and tribulations,
in His strength and enabling.

God uses these times to “mature” us, bringing us closer to Christlikeness.

I cannot say that I am glad when storm clouds come;
When days and nights are burdensome and long.
I like the peacefulness of sunny days,
When life is bright and in my heart’s a song.

And yet, I know the wisdom I have learned
Or any courage that my life displays
Was never gained in golden sunlit hours,
But rather grew from dark and stormy days.

I’ve felt God’s presence closer mid the storm
As I relied on Him to guide my way,
And through my trials found a stronger faith
Enabling me to better face each day.

And so, I would not ask God NOT to send
Those testings fashioned by His loving hand;
For ALL things work together for my good
And things once questioned, now I understand.
(author unknown)

The darker the night, the brighter the stars;
the hotter the fire, the purer the gold.

Where there are no trials, there are no triumphs.

About meetingintheclouds

I am Cloudwatcher, a 76 year old Christian lady, happily married to a wonderful man for over 50 years. We have five wonderful sons, all with at least one University degree and in top positions in their chosen fields. One son is still single but four have found perfect wives and they have given us five lovely grandchildren. I was born in England and while I'm proud of my English heritage, I am doubly proud to be a true-blue, fair-dinkum Aussie. My husband and I are committed Christians whose first priority is to love and serve our risen Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ. My life story will tell of my journey from abuse to peace. I suffered 22 years of abuse, being constantly told I was totally evil and an ugly freak: no one would ever want me, so I might as well do the world a favour and kill myself.

    I never relish going through the refiner’s fire, but what a blessing to know that when God gets through with me, I will come forth as pure gold! Thanks for the inspiring and encouraging words, Angela! God bless!

    • No, we don’t relish it, but what a reward when it is over and we are drawn sooooooo much closer to Him. As the poem says, “I’ve felt God’s presence closer mid the storm As I relied on Him to guide my way” He never fails us.

      What an amazing god!

    Thank you, Angela
    ( I typed a whole bunch out in reply and then my screen just ‘shut itself down’…. I guess all I needed to say was “thank you” and “please excuse me while I go speak with Papa”
    God bless you much,

    • >> “my screen just ‘shut itself down’” – this has been happening to me so many times that I now (if I remember) save my comments before posting them. It has also happened to others and I believe it is because of the advs now appearing on blogs. My internet connection has slowed down dramatically while on WordPress, but not anywhere else.

      I’m sure your time with your Papa gave you much peace.

    Hi Angela, it is very True as you said that God knows we will go through trouble and suffering the Scriptures tell us this too, even babies and children do because we live in a fallen world and also because we sin or others or because Satan is testing us but it is at these times that we see God’s hand comforting and strengthening us and it is this we give thanks for, not for the suffering or hardship, it does not mould and shape us, we are not pots made by man but God’s creation and He moulds and shapes us as we walk in The Fruit of The Spirit by His empowering putting our evil flesh nature to death which causes us to sin and so we are then perfected in Love.

    I’m at the Beach as I write this to you it’s beautiful, I can’t get reception in the unit , Ron is here to pick me up, I will try to be in touch again.

    • Yes, Anne, we give thanks for the way our loving Father uses the trials to mould us. We give thanks for Him and His care – not for the troubles themselves.

      The best time of the year for the beach – not the blazing sun and humidity of our summers. Keep enjoying it and have a great time of relaxation.

    Thanks so much, mentor Angela, for giving us this precious post and perspective, so we can see more than just the trouble of what we are going through I think of too, that added faith and trust in Him that we gain through the storms and how He can use that experience through us to help someone else in their storm.
    I loved the analogies of this one too . ..the bar of steel and the clay! So good to get that visual aid of what’s going on!
    God bless you as you bless others today! :) love and prayers!

    • Thanks for adding that other aspect Debbie – that going through adversities helps us to help others who have similar experiences. Isn’t it wonderful that no matter what happens to us, our amazing God has it under His control and HE will bring us through victoriously as we trust Him.

      What an amazing God!

    Looking back at my life, I can honestly say that I walked the closest to my Lord during times of trials, heartaches and troubles. It is a very sad commentary, but it took these times to drive me to Him in realization of my great need of Him. Lord bless you.

    • Isn’t it true for all of us Rob? I know that my ‘worst times’ produced a spurt of spiritual growth, and looking back I can thank God for each and every trial I’ve experienced since becoming His.

    So true, that trials bring triumphs. Storms cause trees to have deeper roots. A tree that doesn’t have deep roots is easily blown down. As trees of righteousness, adversity causes us to run to the Lord Jesus. Thank you for a thought provoking post.

    • Thanks for adding another analogy. Yes, the best timber comes from trees which have to withstand fierce conditions. There is no doubt that when we submit to the Lord, adversities make us stronger.
