BLIND TRUST?

Blind Trust

In the Paralympics we can watch an amazing feat: totally blind skiers hurtling down slopes at highway speeds.    How can they achieve such a feat?

Visually impaired and totally blind skiers are guided by a sighted team mate who calls changes in direction and terrain changes, either by voice signals or by radio communication, but no physical contact is allowed during the race.

Identified

The guide must ski in front of a visually impaired skier but can ski either in front of or behind a totally blind skier.  They participate in both downhill speed events and slalom courses. This requires intensive team work.  It is not a matter of a skier and a guide, even though their jackets may identify them in this way.

It is a definite team work,
requiring total trust on the part of the skier
and total dependability on the part of the guide

Guiding is not an easy job. A guide has to be totally committed to the task, as a fraction of a second distraction could cause a serious accident for the blind skier.
The guide has to an expert, being able to ski faster and better, even at high speeds,
while at the same time concentrating 100% on his team mate.

As a Christian, I can relate to the blind skier.
(Physically, that would be an impossibility,
but on a spiritual level, there are many similarities)

I AM BLIND
when I depend on my own thoughts, understanding, desires.

I HAVE A GUIDE
who is fully qualified, who is totally dependable,
who will never lead me astray, who will direct me without fail

I MUST FOLLOW
my Guide implicitly and follow His instructions
with no deviation

My Guide, of course, is the Holy Spirit. The Word of God promises me that He will guide me always, and in the 53 of my 75 years that I have known, loved and served my loving heavenly Father, through the Lord Jesus Christ, He has never failed – and indeed He cannot fail.

When we cannot see our way,
Let us trust and still obey;
He who bids us forward go
Cannot fail the way to show.

Be it ours, then, while we’re here,
Him to follow without fear;
While He calls us, there to go,
What He bids us, that to do.
(Thomas Kelly)

I am Cloudwatcher, a 76 year old Christian lady, happily married to a wonderful man for over 50 years. We have five wonderful sons, all with at least one University degree and in top positions in their chosen fields. One son is still single but four have found perfect wives and they have given us five lovely grandchildren. I was born in England and while I'm proud of my English heritage, I am doubly proud to be a true-blue, fair-dinkum Aussie. My husband and I are committed Christians whose first priority is to love and serve our risen Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ. My life story will tell of my journey from abuse to peace. I suffered 22 years of abuse, being constantly told I was totally evil and an ugly freak: no one would ever want me, so I might as well do the world a favour and kill myself.

    Simply wonderful, Angela!

What a marvelous thing to have Him as our great Guide.

How often do I blindly follow my own plans? More times than I can count! So thankful He is there to provide the guidance I often don’t know I need.

    Blessings much,

What a great thought in that message Angela, ,we sometimes think that we aren`t handicapped ,and forget our fallen nature and sometimes stunted spiritual growth ! Thanks for the timely reminder.

    • Thanks Ron. I was about to say that there isn’t a day goes by that we don’t need His guidance, but I’ll change the ‘day’ to ‘moment’!
Reminds me of the old hymn, “Moment by moment” – the way it had to be between the blind skier and his guide and the way it needs to be between us and our Guide.

Truly, truly amazing. And every so often I catch the realization that I’m spiritually blind, walking in faith–it would scare me, except that HE has a good tight grip on my hand! Praise the Lord. Have a blessed day in Him.

    • I think of Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with ALL your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. Acknowledge Him in all your ways and He will direct your paths” and also many Scriptures in the New Testament which promise guidance and protection.

With a sure and certain promise that Holy Spirit will guide us and keep us safe, we have no fear of travelling with Him in this dark world.

      What an amazing God!

Hi again Angela, I’m a bit behind with my Blogging apart from a few, I have just been posting and answering comments. I had an accident on my Mobility Bike, the brakes gave out, I’m all right but still a bit shook up even now and it was a few days ago. I hurt some people, a little boy and two woman, I was in the Supermarket when it happened and going through the checkouts, I’m blessed the Scooter stopped but not sure how or I would have been hurt badly, I now have new brakes.

I do not blame God for this accident as some do, it is not His will we suffer and have hardship, He is a good guide, He does not lead us into deep waters but He holds us up in them Isaiah 43:1-3 and He will bring good out of it this accident, that is a promise. I may not see the good now but like Jesus assured Thomas even though we would not see Him we would still believe by faith and we are greatly blessed for doing so … can you imagine Angela not believing Jesus is real… I can’t, but we can’t see Him and yet we believe.

Proverbs 3:5-7 was the first Scripture God gave me to hold onto it really touched my heart this is why I too depend on the Holy Spirit’s empowering as Jesus leads us into all Truth, He is our only Teacher without The Holy Spirit it is all about what we think or others, they may be right but our confirmation comes from The Lord. 1 Corinthians 2 9:16

    • Sorry to hear about your little accident and trust you are now back to normal. I can’t understand people saying it was God’s doing. Evidently they do not understand the nature of God.

Hi Angela, yes I’m feeling better but it has taken awhile to get the images of those frightened people out of my mind, I felt so helpless I could not stop and they could not get out of the way being in a checkout line, one lady was badly hurt but thankfully not permently or fately, the little boy was in pain and very frightened having been hit in the tummy and his Mum trying to protect him was also hurt, I know it was not in God’s will for this to happen and I can’t see how but I know He will bring good out of it . I have to go shopping again today but still feel uneasy about the Scooter even though it has new brakes but being disabled I don’t have a choice.

Thanks for caring – Christian Love Anne

Oh wow…I cannot imagine being a blind skier. After reading your wonderful analogy, I thought of John 9:25(b) “I was blind but now I see!”
I became a Christian when I was 35-years-old, before that time I was “blind” to the Truth.
    Very thought-provoking post…thank you!! God bless :)

Just as you say… the only way to “navigate” in the darkness of this sinful world is by following our Lord’s leadership every step of the way. I thank Him for being so concerned He, personally (in the person of the HS), leads each of His people every single day!

    May the Lord bless you.

I totally love your analogy devotions, Mentor Angela. Right now I am thinking about being that blind skier and what that would be like! Oh my goodness! How they must trust and depend on their guide and stay tuned in to that guide’s every word and signal. Praying for that kind of dependence on Jesus. . .for me to realize that my life depends on it. Because it does!
God bless you as you follow your Holy Spirit Guide today! love and prayers!

    • Hi Debbie. I tried to put myself in the place of the blind skier too, and I had to think what a tragedy it is that if I was in that place I would listen much more intently to my guide than I do to my Guide. How sad that I would value my physical well being more highly than my spiritual.
May we always be straining to hear His voice and quick to obey.

How have you been doing? Nice message…It reminds me of the following two verses:

Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” (John 20:29)

For we walk by faith, not by sight (2 Cor 5:7)

The question remains – How many of us really do give any room for the Holy Spirit? Too often we blunder along in our own strength. After praying about & talking to “my stranger” I have felt a sense of liberty – but I am troubled by the verse, my yoke is easy & burden is light (Matthew 11:30)- all too often we bear a heavy burden and the yoke of WORKS which the Saviour never invited us to carry!

    • I agree we tend to go along tackling the smaller problems in our own strength and only turn to the Lord for help when bigger things happen our way. We should give Him 100% control.
The yoke of works should never be carried!

Hi Angela, I’m catching up and looking foward to your next Post one thing that I came to realise in my Christian life was….

Sticks and stones will break my bones but names will never hurt me but they do if we believe them, Satan puts us down and tells us we are hopeless, weak , powerless, defenceless, sinful and all of these are the opposite of what we are in Christ Jesus…

1 Peter 2:8-10 But ye are a chosen Generation, a Royal Priesthood, an Holy Nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvellous light; Which in time past were not a people, but are now the People of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

Wonderful message Angela and very True and if we are to know the heart of God then we need to depend on the Holy Spirit to give us His understanding and not to depend on our own or someone elses fleshy reasoning when it is not confirmed in the Scriptures

    1 Corinthians 2 1-16 ( 9-16 )

    Thank you Christian Love Anne.

    • Hi Anne. Yes, just as a blind skier, I need to listen attentively to my Guide and implicitly follow His direction. When I fail to do this, I can expect to crash.
      I think of Proverbs 3:5-7

Hi again Angela Proverbs 3:5-7 was the first Scripture that God touched my heart with 30 years ago, much later I got around to asking Him how do I acknowledge you as Lord and He said I needed to know Him first but not as some others say He is, Proverbs shows us we need God’s wisdom and so I asked but it was much later after God told me to ask for His wisdom because of all my confusion that I asked for it with all my heart because I realised I needed it 100% all my studying and reading had not done it for me, listening to many messages from others hadn’t done it, even reading the Scriptures didn’t do it for me, there was still confusion, without a doubt I knew that I needed God’s Wisdom not worldly understanding but this time it wasn’t just a whim or what I thought I should do, I wanted it passionately, yes God can use all those things and has in my life since but first I needed to ask and believe I had received His wisdom and I have no doubt I have… Jesus is my only Teacher, His wisdom is never ending.

        Christian Love Anne.
