WISDOM FROM A CAMEL (if a camel could really speak)

wisdom from a camel

One sunny day, little baby camel asked big mummy camel why camels have such big feet, such long eyelashes, and such a big hump.

Mum explained, “Well, in the desert we need big feet to walk safely across the shifting sand. We need long eyelashes to protect our eyes from sandstorms, and we need a big hump to carry water on long journeys across the deserts.”

Baby camel could see the wisdom in this explanation, but had doubts and asked, “That all makes sense. We are designed well, but if we are designed for the desert, why are we here in a zoo?”

Good question! Camels were designed to live in deserts.

Those who name the name of Christ
were designed to continue the work of Christ
in the deserts and wildernesses of our world.
We are equipped with faith and the promises of God

and the power and the leading of the Holy Spirit to work there.

We are equipped for service.
We are called to be witnesses: to reach others with the Gospel.
We have all the resources of heaven at our disposal.

Why are we in our comfort zones?
Why are we not using the equipment supplied to us?
Is there any excuse?
Sure, we can say we do our little bit,
but the fact is that if we lived as we should be living,
the world would be turned upside down.

Vance Havner said:
“Most Christians live far below the standard set by Christ.
We are so SUB-NORMAL that if we were to become NORMAL,
people would think we were ABNORMAL.

In the words of Martha Snell Nicholson:

When I stand at the judgement seat of Christ
And He shows me His plan for me –
The plan of my life as it might have been
Had He had His way – and I see
How I blocked Him here, and checked Him there,
And I would not yield my will,
Will there be grief in my Saviour’s eyes,
Grief though He loves me still?

He would have me rich, and I stand there poor,
Stripped of all but His grace,
While memory runs like a hunted thing
Down the paths I cannot retrace.
Then my desolate heart will well-nigh break
With the tears that I cannot shed;
I shall cover my face with my empty hands;
I shall bow my uncrowned head.

Lord of the years that are left to me,
I give them to Thy hand;
Take me and break me and mould me
To the pattern Thou hast planned!

About meetingintheclouds

I am Cloudwatcher, a 76 year old Christian lady, happily married to a wonderful man for over 50 years. We have five wonderful sons, all with at least one University degree and in top positions in their chosen fields. One son is still single but four have found perfect wives and they have given us five lovely grandchildren. I was born in England and while I'm proud of my English heritage, I am doubly proud to be a true-blue, fair-dinkum Aussie. My husband and I are committed Christians whose first priority is to love and serve our risen Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ. My life story will tell of my journey from abuse to peace. I suffered 22 years of abuse, being constantly told I was totally evil and an ugly freak: no one would ever want me, so I might as well do the world a favour and kill myself.

Fascinating blog! Is your theme custom made or did you download it from somewhere? A theme like yours with a few simple tweeks would really make my blog stand out. Please let me know where you got your design. Appreciate it

    Angela,
    Phil 3:14 (KJV)
    14) I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
In my life I try to continually recall this verse to help encourage me to do all that the Lord would have me to do. I sad part is, many times, I allow the things of this world to get my mind off the calling He has given to me.
Lord bless you for this great posting reminding us that we were made, and saved, to serve Him and fulfill His will for our lives! Lord continue to bless you.

    • We all allow the things of the world to distract us at times, Rob. How wonderful it will be when our salvation is complete and we will worship without distraction! Meanwhile, all His resources are available as we run the race. When we look to HIM all our needs are met and we know the victory He has gained for us.

I viewed your beautiful photos “Hoarfrost” but it seems it isn’t a WordPress blog and I wasn’t sure how to respond there.

    Thank you Angela

God bless you much for always, and for sharing this with us. I speak from a heart much overwhelmed. While I cannot bring back the lost years, I am thankful that He still provides opportunity for me to serve. There is still a lot that I can do for Him in this place.

The desert sacrifices are often painful, but the are needed to remind us of our inability to save ourselves, and also of His unending grace.

Beautiful post. Thanks again for sharing.

    Blessings

      >> “While I cannot bring back the lost years”
I am sure most of us have regrets in this area, but as you say, He is a gracious and forgiving God who still still provides opportunities – and all that is needed to fulfill them.

Regardless of our circumstances, He still uses us where we are. Thank you for your ministry here. I know God will continue to bless you and use you to bless others here and elsewhere.

    • Thank you Paulette. I am honoured but – as I know you do – I give the glory to the Lord. I’ll go and check it out.
Yes, I am recovering well and even managed to wash my floors this week – a month before I was supposed to do such things, but managed without difficulties, doing a little at a time.
      We serve an amazing God!

How amazing, I had to do a survey at a Zoo today, and I haven’t set foot in one for over 40 years. I got lost on the way back to the car & came across three camels. Now I’ve found another. I hope the recovery is going well.

This post brought both sadness and encouragement.
Sorrow, because I know there are many missed or messed up opportunities in my life.
Often, I have a mis-perception of what I am supposed to be “doing”, because I measure my own life against those of others. While it is good to receive inspiration from other Christians, I need to be listening for what the Lord would have me do today in my own realm of influence.
But this is encouraging as well, because I still have a chance to increase in maturity before I face the Lord on that final day.

Heather, we all miss opportunities. I know I miss many, simply because I am too pre-occupied with me and what I am doing to notice when someone “just happens” to cross my path. Later, I realise I missed an opportunity provided by the Lord.

      >> “Often, I have a mis-perception of what I am supposed to be “doing”, because I measure my own life against those of others”
This is so true. We are all individuals and God has called us to serve Him as we are. He uses our individuality – our differences. We should never compare ourselves with others: only with the Lord Jesus Himself, for God’s intention is that we BE Him in the world today and we are being molded into His image.

      >> “I still have a chance to increase in maturity”
Philippians 1:6 assures us that we can be confident that He who began this work in our lives will continue and perfect it, making us more and more like Christ, and 1 John 1:2 assures us that when He comes we shall be like Him.

      What an amazing God!

Mentor Angela, you have a way of delivering the truth to us so that it really gets across. The analogy of the camels and then us Christ followers is perfect, and not one I’ll forget. God bless you as you lead us in prayer today, to give our lives into His hands.

    • Debbie, I so often wonder why it is that we are so slow to obey, when we know and have experienced the very real blessings of obedience and the great privilege of being used by the Almighty, Creator God in His work. We CANNOT be the loser when we allow Him to direct us. I so look forward to the time when we will serve and worship Him without any distractions. What a day that will be!

I thought about this more yesterday, Angela. It seems we sometimes get stuck in the “yay, I’m saved and going to heaven” phase . . .and it is wonderful and something to rejoice over. Then comes the time to move into what all He has saved us for. Just thinking! :) love and prayers!
